Banksy LOSES Best Documentary Oscar To Inside Job

Bristol-born street artist Banksy managed to whip up a whirlwind of chatter about him in the lead up the Oscars ceremony this year.
The artist's documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop was nominated for Best Documentary in this year's awards. The notoriously secretive graffiti artist caused more speculation about him after he reportedly asked the Academy if he could attend the ceremony in disguise

Banksy transforms Migrant Road Sign into DREAM Crossing

Graffiti artists want to disassociate from crime

SAN DIEGO — All taggers have a street name. Kyle Boatwright, is known as "Sain."
Sain is a shy but prolific tagger who recently served six months in jail for vandalism. When he got out, his case made headlines in the graffiti world. It took investigators 11 months to track him down, and police say his $87,000 settlement is the largest in recent history.

Cleveland graffiti crackdown heats up

CLEVELAND - A bill introduced at Monday's Cleveland City Council meeting would make penalties mandatory for graffiti vandalism. "Until we get really serious about this issue, it's not going to stop," Councilwoman Dona Brady said.
Brady's bill gives graffiti vandals a mandatory six months in jail or $1,000 fine. State law currently provides for up to six months in jail or up to a $1,000 fine.

New book documents history, evolution of graffiti in Toronto

While it may be illegal, graffiti art has a lot of interesting stories to tell, said Dundas Street East and Broadview Avenue resident Yvette Farkas.

New Banksy Print at Bristol Museum?


There's speculation that graffiti artist Banksy has been up to his old tricks again in Bristol.



A new picture turned up at the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery yesterday of Bristol Airport surrounded by flood water.



The image, which was in a gold frame, was placed on a wall next the museum's latest exhibition 'Flight'.

Madrid shopkeepers recruit graffiti artists


Shopkeepers in the Spanish capital have invited graffiti artists to paint the steel shutters protecting their stores to prevent them from being defaced by crude or obscene scribblings.

Graffiti artist creates a portable robotic rainbow machine


This is the Robo-Rainbow by artist Mudlevel, and its purpose is to brighten your day – whether you like it or not:





There’s not much to explain that can’t be gleaned from watching the hypnotic video, a piece of production as beautiful as the robot itself. Powered by a cordless drill, the torque is transferred to a counterweighted arm which lifts six paint spray-cans in an arc.

Is Banksy Oscar Campaigning Through Street Art?

While all of the Oscar nominees for this year's Best Documentary category certainly deserve the accolades that they've been given, I, like many others, truly want Exit Through The Gift Shop to take the prize. Incredibly entertaining and thought-provoking, it's one of the few documentaries that you can find yourself watching over and over without getting tired of it. But there is one problem:

Phone software reports street faults, graffiti

People can now report graffiti, potholes and broken street lamps to councils online and on the spot with their smartphones thanks to Kiwi-developed mapping software.
One of the applications is being used to help with the Queensland flood recovery.FixMyStreet, a free application created by Christchurch web developer Jonathan Hunt, lets people use their PC or iPhone to report faults or incidents.

Brick wall at McElheran's Fine Furniture fits in with the hood

Graffiti artist sprays it publicly

It may be graffiti, but it is also art which is decorating a central Oamaru building, with the owner's approval.
